Nollywood Bids Sam Loco Farewell

Federal  government’s inability to  accord  recognition to late Sam Loco Efe, while he lived reverberated on Wednesday evening, when the entire Nollywood practitioners gathered at O’jez Restaurant,  Surelere, Lagos, to pay their last respects to the legendary actor. The actors,  while taking turns to pay  tributes to the departed  actor expressed disappointment that government at all levels did not deem it necessary to acknowledge the meaningful contributions made by notable Nollywood stars like Sam Loco. According to them, late Sam  Loco  while lived was a thespian who deserved all the  accolades the nation could give to me. “Until his death, government did not deem it important to our honour Sam Loco. What a shame! A man that contributed immeasurably to the entertainment industry in Nigeria.” they bemoaned. However, the event was a night of tribute put together by the various bodies in Nollywood; Association of Movie producers (AMP), National Association of Theatre Arts Practitioners(NANTAP) Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN), Association of Nigerian Theatre Practitioners( ANTP) Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), amongst other bodies had  put the event together ahead of  yesterday’s rites of passage of the veteran actor. Though it recorded an impressive turn-out, most top actors and actresses who passed through the tutelage of the departed actor were not present at the event. Missing at the event were popular faces like Genevieve Nnaji, and Stephanie Okekere who featured prominently during the candlelight night organised  by AGN in honour of late Ashley Nwosu, John Okafor a.k.a Mr. Ibu,  Aki and Pawpaw, who act as miserable children of Sam Loco in most films they act together with him. Also not present were  Omotola Jolade,  Mike Ezuruonye, Mercy Johnson, Ini Edo,  Susan Peters,  Rita Dominic,  and a host of others stars. Only  Lilian Bach,  Monalisa Chinda, Richael Oniga, Uchenna Nnanna  were the top actresses that graced the event. Present also were St Obi, Emeka Ani, Jude Orioha, Okey Bakasi, Julius Agwu, Emeka Enyiocha, Femi Robson,  Bob Manuel, Kanayo O Kanayo, Ifeanyi Dikeh, Abubakar Yakubu,  Paul Obazele who anchored the event, Fidelis  Duker and many others In her tribute, CEO of African Movie Academy Award(AMAA), Peace Anyam-Osigwe called on Nollywood practitioners to endeavour to imbibe the qualities that the departed actor stood  for, while he lived. “His personality will continue to live in Nollywood” she added. Others that paid tributes to the late actor were  Femi Robison, Monalisa Chinda, Paul Obazele and Zik Zule Okafor. Source: vanguradngr.com
